Yay and Yeah

I am constantly confused when I write and read yeah, yay, and yea. I copied the ideas from this site and thought I'd share with you:

• Yeah - pronounced ye-uh as in yes
  "Hey Jen, are you going to with us to the mall."- girl a; "Yeah, I’ll go"- girl b
• Yay - rhymes with and is a synonym of hooray. It’s used in cases of excitement.
  "Did I tell you I won an ipod?" - girl a; "No! Oh that is exciting. Yay!" - girl b
• Yah - is also an expression of agreement but there is no excitement.
  "Hey are you ready to go" - girl a; "yah" - girl b
• Ya - means you
  "How are ya?"
• Yea - is a very old-fashioned formal way of saying “yes,” used mainly in voting. It’s the opposite of—and rhymes with—“nay.”
  "All in favor say yea, all opposed nay."
• and if that wasn’t confusing enough yay can also refer to height, as in "when I was yay big" [holding hand up]

I was mostly surprised with the the word yea, because I didn't know it was used in voting and measuring.

One thing I really need to work on is spelling their correctly. If I spell it correctly it's because of spell check. I automatically spell thier like that. The other day Michael wrote it correctly and didn't give it a second thought. their theri theri thier thier their . Now I'm really confused.

Thoughtful Thursday

How can I not be grateful to the officer who pulled me over and I drove off empty handed?

Becky watched the kids yesterday so I could get out in the morning.

Also, a special shout-out to Mariana for babysitting the kids today so I could go to lunch. She cleaned my kitchen and front room too.

I'll just be honest by saying that my life isn't easy right now. Having the three kids during the day is busy. When all five are home I am completely overwhelmed. When someone offers to help me, it makes a huge difference.

I decided I would be thoughtful by telling you about a couple of my friends who have started their own business. Stop by their sites and check them out. Spread the word. Kudos to anyone starts their own business to support their family:

Ryan:

Ryan is a friend of mine who films weddings. The video he made of my friends wedding brought me to tears. He really has a knack for it.

Dallas recently started his own tax business. He's speedy and accurate and you can't go wrong with that. Give him a call and get that return back sooner than you know it!

Oh yes, she is going to kill me, but today is Katy's birthday! I have been waiting for this day to come where I can wish her a Happy Birthday on my blog!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATY!!!!!

In celebration of Katy's birthday I thought I'd give you some facts and whatnot's about one of my favorite people.

1. I've worked with Katy for 7 years now.

2. Working with Katy makes my day.

3. Katy is easy going, fun loving, non-judgmental, free spirited, and open minded.

4. Katy voted for Barack Obama. She had a sign on the front of her lawn and someone took it and burned it. I couldn't believe that!

5. Katy loves to ski, hike, weight lift, and garden. This Spring she is coming to help me prune my apple trees and I'm really excited to see how they turn out.

6. Katy is a true friend. She supported me through my pregnancy and has visited me many times since then. I love talking to her on the phone and I like emailing her.

7. Katy always asks how my kids are doing and I appreciate her interest in them.

8. I love Katy's theory on bad tippers. She thinks they will either come back in another life and have to earn a living on tips or they will get in a car accident on the way home after they leave a bad tip.

9. Katy likes classic rock. I don't like classic rock. We still manage to stay friends.

10. Katy is a little slow at keeping up with technology. She still has dial-up. We all enjoy poking Katy about it. She takes it in stride. I wonder what will happen when she gets DSL. What will we talk about?

11. One of my favorite things to do with Katy is talk after work. Sometimes we have "therapy sessions" where we just talk about issues we are going through. We were talking in the parking lot when I took the first picture I posted.

I have some great friends and I am so so lucky that Katy is one of them. If Katy isn't your friend, I can only hope you have one just like her. Your life will be blessed.

No, I Don't Officer

My conversation with the officer when I got pulled over yesterday:

Officer: Do you have your drivers license and registration?

Me: No, I don't have my drivers license. I do have my proof of registration and I don't have a current insurance card.

Officer: What's your name and do you know why you are being pulled over?

Me: Yes, my registration has expired. Can you give my husband the ticket instead of me?

Officer: No, you'll get it.

Me: Look, even though I don't have my drivers license I am a very safe driver.

Max: NO SHE'S NOT!! SHE SWEARS ALL THE TIME IN THE CAR. SHE JUST SWORE WHEN YOU PULLED HER OVER!!!

(I honestly can't remember what I said when those lights went on but I do have a little problem with certain four letter words in the car)

Officer goes to his car. Max and I have a conversation about what a special son he is and how I appreciate his honesty (not really).

Officer: Just to remind you, you need your license, registration up to date, and proof of current insurance.

Me: Are all those things on the ticket?

Officer: No, I am not going to give you ticket. (thank you thank you thank you)

Me: Can I come out of the car and give you hug?

Officer: No, but here's a sticker for your son for being a good citizen.

Kate is an angel from heaven! This is my favorite position for her because she's stuck. Literally, she's stuck. She can't move when I sit her down like this. She's army crawling now but she's not too ambitious.

How often do you mop your bathroom floor? Maggie was eating popcorn off your bathroom floor today so I was wondering how clean it really is. Second thought, maybe you shouldn't tell me.

Thoughtful Thursday

This week my friend called me out of the blue and asked if I wanted to go to her house for lunch. Wow! That was a very nice surprise. This is why I am grateful for her thoughtfulness:

1. I didn't have to worry about fixing lunch for me or Maggie.

2. I enjoyed being at someone's house other than my own.

3. I enjoyed the conversation.

4. The babies had new toys to play with.

5. I had something fun to look forward to.

6. Maggie had someone to play with.

7. The day seemed so much better!

8. The salad we ate was fabulous!

All of this from one simple lunch invitation.

Now...who wants to come over for lunch?

Thoughtful Thursday

In July, my friend Jan came over to help me with the twins. She scooted me out the door and I ran errands while she folded laundry and watched all of my children. When I came home I found Jan here and took this picture. It's not easy taking care of newborn twins. I am so thankful for Jan taking time out of her day to come and help me. Thanks Jan!

I also want to mention my friend Marlo. There are at least 20 kids in our neighborhood and that doesn't stop Marlo from giving them a ride to school or a ride home. Yesterday, I was driving home from dropping off the boys and I saw Marlo to the side of the road picking up kids. She had already dropped her kids off at school but was willing to pick up the late kids to make sure they got there.

Sometimes being thoughtful takes a little more time than planned. Things always work out. The rewards are always greater.

Gifts of the Season

I didn't realize how quickly the holidays flew by until I had to wake up and get the kids to school this morning. They were late, of course.

I thought I'd share some Christmas presents that were received this holiday season...

Vacuum:
I know, Claire doesn't look like an actual vacuum. Believe me, she is. I'm not too thrilled with it. She puts EVERYTHING into her mouth. I am having a hard time keeping up with her and find stuff in her mouth all the time.

Purse and wallet:
How can I not acknowledge a cute PINK purse? You can read Misty's blog for details.

Engagement Ring:
Congrats to my friend, Amy, who received this ring over the holidays. CAN'T WAIT to go to the wedding in New York!! She hasn't even invited me yet, I am assuming that I will be invited.

iTouch:
For all my hard work this holiday season I bought myself one of these little gadgets. Thanks Robby and Sue for the discount! Can't wait to get it in the mail. Just another electronic device for me to get addicted to.

Ah yes, the Sugar Bowl victory! Happiness abides in our house. I woke up the day after the game and it felt like Christmas all over again, but even BETTER! Way to go Utah!!!

Video Killed the Radio Star

A few weeks ago I was having a conversation with my sister. She was rambling about something and I told her she should listen to Rabbi Shmuley. He has great insight. She had never heard of him. He is a regular in my house. Every morning at 10 a.m. I turn on my XM Radio and listen to him while I do the dishes.
I love XM Radio. We decided that I would give her an XM Radio for Christmas. She said she would give him a listen. She also told me she was excited to listen to NPR and listed all of her favorite shows on NPR. This wasn't the radio. The one I bought her was way cooler.
The day she received it in the mail was the day I learned that Rabbi Shmuley wasn't going to be on the radio anymore. I think he is going to be on the TV. BUMMER!!!

In the meantime, I found NPR and am loving this radio show:


I'm hoping it will be on at 10 a.m. so I can do the dishes and listen to it. Otherwise, I'm not doing the dishes anymore.

Thoughtful Thursday

Many small random acts of kindness have occurred the past two weeks. Here are a few:

1. Who wants to go shopping the busiest part of town two days before Christmas? I don't. Still, those last minute items need to be purchased. I was in this very poorly planned parking lot and was stuck. I was in a location where I did not have the right-of-way and I knew it would be a while before I could get out. You've got to know the feeling: stressed, dreading the wait, wishing I would have shopped any of the 364 days in the year other than that one. Just as I was taking a deep breath, a lady stopped her car and waved for me to go. A sigh of relief came out of my mouth and I used my chance to exit. That is the holiday spirit!

2. I was at work and was serving an older couple. This sweet couple could not get around very well. In the middle of the evening I looked over and noticed that the elderly man had fallen on the ground! I was worried. I guess he went to sit down and missed the chair. Plenty of people were right there to help him get up. He seemed fine after the accident and left soon after. When I counted the cash they had left to pay their bill, I did a double take. They left me a 45% tip!!! Not 10% or 20% but 45%. That certainly made my night and was grateful for their kindness.

3. During the holidays I had several people slip me an extra $20 as they left the restaurant.

4. As some of you may know, little Claire (twin B)is a MANIAC. She doesn't take very long naps and she is all over the place. I was trying to get her to nap and she was crying and crying and crying. Becky came over, as I was talking with her, Claire was crying and crying and crying. Becky asked if she could take Claire and have her nap at her house. YES YOU CAN!!! Thank you very much, that made a 100% difference in my day.

An extra $1 or just giving someone the right-of-way, it makes a difference. It's the small and simple things that make the world a better place.
