The Little Visitors

Just because I titled my blog, little visitors, doesn't mean they were invited. It's January, 28 degrees outside, and I have ants in my kitchen. I can't have any food on the floor or I have a family of ants surround the food. The good thing is that I just scoop up the ants and throw them outside. I assume they will freeze to death. The bad thing is that my claw does not pick up ants. For the remaining two months of this pregnancy, I will NOT be on the floor scooping up food and ants. Isn't that a creepy picture? Yuk!

The $500 Christmas Present

Does this look like it's worth $500? It should be. What is it, you ask? In reality, it's a robe rope, or wrap, or tie , or whatever. This was the cause of serious contention. Maggie played with it all day on Thursday. Michael took it from her when he got home from school. It all went downhill from there. Michael decided to bring it to pack meeting. I've never seen so many tears from two children. Back and forth, grabbing from each other. People were looking at them wondering what they were fighting over. I finally took it away. I wanted to burn it. After days like this, I wonder why we buy Christmas presents. Why do we spend over $300 on Christmas and a robe tie seems to be the most spectacular thing ever? We don't even have the robe anymore.

Then there's Max. On Thursday night he told me he swallowed the chain that holds his dog tags. He swallowed about 2 inches of the chain. I called my friend/medical consultant and she said that he should be fine. I mentioned to Max that if it starts causing pain, he might have to have surgery. He wasn't in serious pain. Friday morning I got a call from the school. Max was on the phone and he he had a stomach ache. I said I'd pick him up. He told me to take him straight to the Dr.'s office. I couldn't find the car keys so I had to have a friend take me to his school. Max did not look in pain, nor did he seem distressed. He was a little bummed that I wasn't taking him straight to the Dr.'s. He was also disappointed that he wasn't having immediate surgery. As we were driving he said, "can I go back to my old school and see my friends?" When we got home he said "mom, all my friends think I am having surgery today. What am I going to tell them?" I told him they would forget all about it by Monday. His teacher called that night worried that he was going to have surgery. I guess it was an attention-grabbing story for him to share at school. I remember I let Max limp on his foot for three days. My neighbor convinced me to take him to the Dr.. It turned out he broke his foot. It's hard to know when something is REALLY wrong. My friend works in an ER. She told me the only object she's seen removed (that's been swallowed) was a battery. The acid in the battery can be harmful. She's had patients that have swallowed an open safety pin, coins, all types of objects but they weren't removed. Maybe this will save you a $25 co-pay to your Dr. or $100 to the ER. You can use the extra money and buy your kids a tie that wraps around a robe.

Ahh, The Simple Things....

It's the simple things that make life livable and I've taken some pictures of the small things that I've been appreciating lately.

My fabulous friend, Annemarie, recommended I hem my pants with this hemming tape. It's awesome! Fold the pants, put the tape in between, and iron. Yet another excuse not to get my sewing machine out.

Maggie is really into "honey sandwiches". She'll eat at least 2 and up to 5 sandwiches a day. I'll admit, I no longer can handle the smell of peanut butter. I can't stand the smell on my fingers after I make it. Beside the fact that I was totally grossed out when I read that this peanut butter has FULLY hydrogenated oil in it, sick. I figure Maggie won't have clogged arteries at her young age. The ease of making the sandwich is worth it.

My beloved sleeping pills. If I am no longer writing my blog after the twins come, I'm in rehab. These pills are the love of my life. They knock me right out and I sleep through the night. I'm not uncomfortable at night, there's no pain, just pure sleep.

Finally, my claw. The red claw is picking up my black sock. It's a wonderful thing. I no longer have huff and puff bending over, I just use my claw. I wish I could bring it to work and carry it around with me.

Sunday Joys

We sat on the back bench in church yesterday. Maggie sat next to me and there was a pregnant woman next to Maggie. She was young, this was her first baby. I noticed how she would put her hands on her stomach as though the baby was kicking. I wondered what she was thinking as she saw my family in church. Here's a recap: Maggie was going under the bench and screaming. Apparently, there were other kids under the bench ahead of her and she was yelling at them to be quiet. I couldn't bend down to get her, my stomach was too big.
Max found a spot on the bench where he would sit down and it sounded like gas. I could have shot him a mean look and told him to move. I laughed with the family instead.
Then there's the typical sharing problem. No one will share their crayons or ink pens with each other so everyone is arguing who gets what.
Maggie was putting food in her mouth then spitting it out on the floor. Again, I couldn't bend over to pick it up.
Finally, Maggie was screaming for her binkie, which I refuse to let her take at church.
This whole time, this girl was sitting next to me, touching her kicking baby. I wonder if she knew I had two babies in my stomach as I fought the church battle. I wonder if she thought "my kids will never do that in church." Who knows, she might have thought my children were angels during church. Whatever the case, my days of a peaceful Sacrament meeting are gone!

Just a Little Ticked

I am cranky. When I am pregnant I get really cranky. I got really ticked at the insurance claim adjuster for the person who was at fault. For some reason, the woman who crashed into me didn't call her insurance company the day after the accident. Unless she was really hurt, it doesn't make sense why a person wouldn't call their agent as soon as possible. I called her insurance company all day yesterday, and this morning, asking for a rental car. The claim adjuster would not give me the time of day until their client contacted them. Here is a conversation I had with her company this morning (trying to make this as short as possible):

CA (claim adjuster): You can't get a car until our client contacts us.

Me: Why wouldn't' someone call right away to report their accident?

CA: It hasn't even been 24 hours, sometime it takes days for us to get the report. (in an impatient way)

Me: How would you feel if you had no car and had to wait days for one?

CA: I would report the accident to my own insurance rather than wait for the person at fault. How would you feel if your insurance agency ran a claim without hearing your story first?

Me: I would have the common courtesy to report the accident as soon as possible so I can take care of everyone who was involved in the accident. My insurance agent will be contacting you.

Then I hung up on her.

The insurance company finally called me today to let me know they would pay for the accident. I was amazed at how friendly they were once she admitted it was her fault. The difference was night and day.

Here's a conversation I had with Andy:

Andy (calling from his cell phone): Are you ready to go to the game? I am coming to get you.

Me: Yes, but I am having a hard time getting Maggie dressed.

Andy: Does that mean you don't want to go?

Me: NO!! COME AND PICK ME UP!!!

Then I hung up.

I guess when I am pregnant I feel justified in my anger. I am afraid it's just going to get worse. If I were you, I would steer clear of me and if I do get snappy, don't take it personally. If you try and let me know your feelings were hurt, I'll probably bite your head off. FYI....

Never Say....

Yesterday I was wondering around my house thinking, "Gosh, I don't have anything to say in my blog". I have learned never to think something like that because I got into a car accident last night. It was 9 pm, I was trying to get off the freeway and the car ahead of me had stopped. I stopped behind it, wondering what the hold up was. Suddenly BAM!!!, a woman slammed into the back of my car ("rear driver side", is how the insurance person made me define it). I screamed, said a mild swear word, and hit the car ahead of me. Everyone is fine, THANK GOODNESS!!! I didn't start going into contractions so I considered that a blessing. The lady behind me, her car is totaled. The guy ahead of me has a dent in the "passenger rear end" of the car. Now I am just waiting to get a rental car since my car was towed. My kids acted like it was nothing. Maggie kept saying, "go get Hobbes! Go get Hobbes!" When Andy was driving us home I asked Maggie why she wanted Hobbes at the scene of the accident. She said "to bite the policengers." Anyway, from now on, I'll always have something to say on my blog and never wait for anything to happen so I can write about it!

New Year Resolution

I quit making resolutions a long time ago. I don't make them because I forget them about three days after the new year. One year, I made the resolution to remember all of my friends birthdays. That lasted 6 months. That's the best I've done. I have decided to make a resolution for 2008. It's a little difficult making a resolution when I know what's ahead for me this upcoming year. So, I am making this one that's achievable for me. I decided this year I will lose 10 lbs. and I'll give myself the whole year to do it. Let's think about this... I am hoping each baby will weigh at least 5 lbs when they are born. Ta dah, 10 lbs gone! I already feel a sense of accomplishment!

Holiday Recap 2007

First, I need to wish Andy a Happy Birthday! Born on December 31st, we celebrate the New Year and Andy's birthday combined. This picture was taken on Christmas morning, probably around 11 am. After staying up until 4:30 am , he finally crashed. Happy Birthday Andy!!!

A few days after Christmas, I put Maggie's cheerleader uniform on her. She was very excited. Once the uniform was on she lifted her arms and said "where are my brains?" Amazing, once the uniform goes on, she loses her brains! "Brains???", I asked. "How about pom poms?" (I don't know if they are pon pons or pom poms. Obviously, I was never a cheerleader) Yes, that was what she was looking for.

Finally, for Christmas I received a MacBook. It's pretty cool but I haven't quite gotten use to it. I decided that I since I have a Mac I better get an iPhone. Doesn't that sound logical?
