What a Week!

Just thinking about this week makes me tired! Here's a glimpse of our activities:

LEMONADE STAND
Max had this with his friend a couple of weeks ago. I just wanted to add the picture. The sign says 25 cents. I wanted to make a sign that said Organic Lemonade. Not because it was organic, I thought it would look hip.

SUMMER BOUTIQUE
Purses, purses, purses! I had a totally fun boutique at my house. My friend, Sarah, has a business where she sells hair accessories. I invited her and 4 other businesses to do some serious selling. I bought mucho hair accessories and the two purses in the back. The pink one is my favorite (imagine that). For my birthday, my mom bought me the colorful one in the front. It is not like me to have 3 purses. I feel like I am swimming in accessories. I usually have one purse that I use for 3 years. Now I have to figure out how to utilize these things.

DENTIST APPOINTMENT
Yep, no 24 hour reminder and I forgot about the kids dentist appointment! Luckily, our dentist reminded me 45 minutes before the appointment. I managed to find a sitter, shower, shampoo, and shine in that time. Max had two cavities filled and we discovered one cavity in Michael's mouth. No comments on our dental hygiene habits please.

MAYFIELD 24th OF JULY PARADE and CELEBRATION
We went to my mom's for the 24th. It's a down-home-country celebration. Unfortunately, I forgot to take pictures. I was SO TIRED I could barely make it to the park for all the activities. Anyway, I borrowed this picture from my cousin, Rebecca. She snapped this at the 4th of July celebration that took place one town over. The picture is of my Uncle Jack and Aunt Mary Lois.

A PLEASANT SURPRISE
Our friends joined us in Mayfield for the 24th of July. Like I said, I didn't take pictures. I thought this picture was suitable. Anyway, they wanted to see what a small town celebration was like. It was fun to have them there. Anyone is welcome to come next year.

PINK EYE

Yuk! Need I say more about the crud that's been in our house this week?

Drug of Choice

I was talking on the phone with my friend Mariana. Her Diet Coke spilled on her floor while we were talking. I told her I would get a her new one while I was out. She mentioned something about paying for it. I told her I'd buy it for her. She sounded surprised. I said that sisters-in-the-drink don't worry about the money we just get the drink for each other.

"This is blogworthy material," I thought to myself. An entire blog dedicated to my drug of choice, Diet Coke. If you are a DC drinker, you can totally relate to this. Here are some whatnot's about the drink...

1. I started drinking DC about 10 years ago, when I went on a diet. I drink it now whether I'm on a diet or not.

2. I work at a restaurant. Sometimes the servers are in the back wondering why heavy people eat a ton of food and still drink DC. DC is an acquired taste. I am betting most people start drinking it when they are trying to cut calories. Once you start drinking it, you can't stop. There's nothing like a cheeseburger and a DC.

3. When I was pregnant I couldn't drink DC. It made me sick. I could have stayed off of it after I had the babies but I didn't.

4. I prefer my drink on tap. The can is ok and the smaller size bottle is a little better.

5. DC doesn't always have the same taste. Something about the water and syrup mix. I do have my favorite place to get my fix. The best part about the place is it has a DRIVE THRU. Ya baby! McDonald's is a sure thing because it tastes the same at every restaurant.

6. When I drive up to get my fix the employee usually asks if I want a skinny or fat straw. I tell them it doesn't matter because I don't want to seem too picky. I prefer skinny straws.

7. Many people of my same faith think that drinking DC is a no-no. I don't care what they think.

8. I've never met a person who has permanently "gone off"DC. Those who have tried have gotten "back on". My friend Ryan was a big drinker. He now drinks Caffeine Free DC. That's the only person I know who has "gotten off", but he's not really "off".

9. While I was at work, a guest told me that DC is bad for your bones. I bet she works for Pepsi.

10. There's an unspoken understanding that DC drinkers have amongst ourselves. For example, your friend is having a bad day, bring her a DC. Going to a friends house to visit? Bring her a DC. Going to a church activity? Bring your own DC and an extra one for a fellow drinker. You don't pay your friend for the DC nor do you expect to be paid because you know that the favor will be returned.

11. Since I work for a church owned restaurant, I get lots of questions from guests about selling alcohol or coffee. Some people ask, "why don't you serve coffee but you serve soda with caffeine?" A co-worker asked a General Authority (leader in our church) what's the best answer to that question. He said that when the Word of Wisdom was established it specified coffee and tea. It never specified Coke. He said that it's the members choice to drink soda with or without caffeine. I chose with.

12. Finally, Coca Cola did not pay me to write this blog. If they need a spokesperson for the product, I'm all over it.

"Special" Sundays

I'll come out and admit that I am not a huge Sunday lover. I loved Sundays when I was single. Since having kids I find Sundays to be a big pain in the butt! There are moments during Church that I enjoy Sunday, otherwise, it's very chaotic. Here are a few things that made my Sunday "special":

*Arriving to church only to learn that Kate had a poopie diaper. I forgot the diaper bag.

*Maggie laying underneath the bench. She managed to lay in a position that the two teenage boys behind her (along with everyone else) could see her underwear.

*I can't grab Maggie because my shirt is too small in the arms. The shirt fits everywhere but in the arms. So bending down to grab her was impossible.

*Maggie screaming at Cory while she's sharing her testimony, "HI CORY!!!"

On the other hand, my cute son Max shared his testimony and I thought he did a great job. That would be one of the seldom moments I enjoyed Sunday.

From the Mouths of Innocent Children

Michael: Sometimes I touch my farts when I fart.
Max: I do too.
Michael: It just feels like air.
Max: Yea, it just feels like air.

And I thought I knew everything!

Fabulous 4th!

We started this tradition 3 years ago. Or is it 4 years now? I can't remember. I got tired of going to our ward breakfast and having nothing to do for the rest of the day until the fireworks began. We rent water slides from Jim. We had the Volcano and the Slip-n-slide. The Volcano was awesome! The fun began at 10 am and the last family left at 9:30 pm. It was a BLAST!! The funnest one we've had so far. When the last person left I started feeling a little sad. For the first time, in a long time, I didn't want the day to end. I wish we could have made it a 2 day event. Here's a little recap of the events...
Friends having fun.
Lots of adult chatter.
Snow cones with a professional snow cone maker.
She had a snow cone in her hand all day. She'd get a snow cone every 5 minutes. Most landed in the garbage after a few bites.
The little kids had fun.
The big kids did too!
Lots of fun, friends and food! What more can one ask for?
